Q?

What Do I Do If The Pump Motor Is Leaking?

A.

Is your Pump Motor Leaking? The motor usually has 2 main places where the leak occurs.  It may be the seal plate gasket if you see the leak on the housing unit.  If you see the water dripping from below the motor, it’s time to replace the pump seal, and I recommend replacing the seal plate gasket and lid O-ring at the same time since eventually they all wear out.  The leak could also be from the CPVC nipple that is threaded into the top of the motor, and that should be re-piped.

Q?

Why Is My Pool Cloudy?

A.

A Cloudy pool is not what you had in mind when thinking about the joys of owning a Pool.. Cloudy Pool  is often a result of the pool just needing a boost in the chlorine level, this is an easy fix,  just add the appropriate amount of shock for the size of your pool (usually a couple pounds will do the trick if there’s not algae present).

A Cloudy Pool could also mean the pH level is too high – adjust accordingly.  Also check the TDS levels as the water may be saturated.  If so I’d recommend a pool drain.  I’d also try adding a clarifier – this can be very effective also.

When selecting a Pool Service to maintain your pool, Cloudy Pool should not be an issue again as every week Chlorine levels, PH levels, TDS Levels are tested and Clarifier is added as needed.

Q?

Why Isn’t My Pool Pump Priming?

A.

When your Pool Pump isn’t Priming, In most cases air is being drawn in, and it could be some of the O-rings in the Jandy valve or possibly the lid.

Priming problems could also due to the CPVC nipple that connects the motor to the filter (threaded on top of the motor) needing to be re-piped.  Another possibility is that the impeller could be clogged.  Finally, maybe the skimmer basket or pump basket is full or even a clog in the lines could be the cause.

Q?

My pool pump is very noisy, is this bad?

A.

Knocking is often caused by cavitation which occurs when the pump impeller forces dissolved gases out of solution. This causes high pressures which can damage your pump. Cavitation is the result of poor pump design or oversized pumps which try to move more water than is available. Suction leaks in the systems can contribute to cavitation by decreasing pump efficiency. Noise can also be from bad motor bearings.

Q?

Why is water constantly running out my backwash line?

A.

This is usually a bad backwash valve gasket or one that is not properly seated.

Q?

My pool seems to be losing water, what should I do?

A.

Pools lose up to half an inch daily due to evaporation and normal use.
